If you do not believe that your dog is of the Pit Bull Terrier type, you can dispute the charge, but we strongly recommend instructing a solicitor. For contact details of solicitors who are experienced in this specialised area of dog law, please see our recommended solicitors page.
According to the law, the responsibility falls upon the defence (i.e. the owner of the dog) to prove that his dog is not of the Pit Bull type and the best way to do this is to instruct an independent expert witness to carry out a breed assessment. Dr Mugford often assists in such matters and may be instructed to carry out a thorough physical and behavioural examination of the dog. For more information please call us on 01932 574 277, alternatively our details may be passed to your solicitor.
